Today’s financial news headlines were generally about topics other than job cuts. Still, I didn’t have to dig deep to find these headlines:
Micron to Cut as Many as 2,000 Jobs at Idaho Plant — 500 in the near future and the other 1500 in the next 6 months.
Vodafone Said to Plan Hundreds of Job Cuts at U.K. Division — More details tomorrow when the official plans are announced. As an aside, I’m reminded of a friend who recently studied abroad in Spain. Her customer service experience with Vodafone was either quite good or quite bad, depending on the state of local brothels. I believe the exact quote was, “Vodafone is full of Spanish whores.” Thinking of you, Claire.
BHP Cuts 40% of Staff at Head Office, Relocates Roles — Australian mining jobs (~250).
Russel Metals to Cut 500 Jobs, Reduce Executives’ Pay — Canadian mining jobs.
Jobs are being lost at all levels of the supply chain.
