At first impression, I’m pretty happy with these cuts. Some of them—like the cut in farm subsidies—are going might have a rough time in Congress.
Did you just hear Obama’s speech on this (as in, 10 minutes ago)? I have to say, it was pretty encouraging. I realize he may have had to dig, but he brought forward a program—an academic mentoring program at that—and said (paraphrasing) “Look. This program isn’t working, and it’s extremely redundant. Let’s cut it.” I’m very curious how this will turn out. You are right. This whole budget will have a rough time in Congress.
