I was curious what the maturity profile of the US Debt was. I couldn’t actually find it anywhere, so I went to the source data here. I just graphed the publicly held part of the debt, because the government will always be willing to roll over the debt they hold themselves. It totals to just shy of $6 trillion (which was the publicly held part in the February report). Much of our debt is financed short term. I don’t have any commentary on this. I was just satisfying my own curiosity and decided to share the graph. If anyone wants a different graph of the data (say, to include the intragovernmental holdings), let me know.
